Abortion Clinics
In 1973 the United States Supreme Court delivered the ruling that shaped how abortions are treated in our nation today: Roe v. Wade. The court ruling sparked a national and international controversy that is still going strong today. The “Pro-Life” and “Pro-Choice” groups have battled on many fronts over the past thirty years and have yet to come to any sort of consensus. The main issue debated between the two is not weather human life should be terminated, but weather the fetus is actually human life. The merits of this debate have been addressed by thousands of people world wide and yet abortions continue within our country today. Though a babies heart begins to beat between 18 to 21 days after conception when it is about 1/12th of an inch long, the fetus is not sustainable outside of the uterus for another 18-20 weeks, and even then does not have the greatest of chances to stay alive.
While many arguments are given on both sides of the issue the Bible demonstrates that because of God’s sovereignty he knew all of us before we were born. We are God’s creation before we were even conceived. The Prophets Jeremiah and Isaiah both declare that they were called before they were born. Jeremiah 1:4-5 says “The word of the Lord came to me saying, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart.” And Isaiah 49:1 says “Before I was born the LORD called me; from my birth he has made mention of my name.” From these verses we can clearly see, weather the fetus should be called a human being or not, it is still a creation of God and should be protected. Our government has been charged with the role of protecting the God given rights of it’s citizens. Within the declaration of independence our founding father’s outlined the role that our government should take “That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men” Among “these rights” that must be secured by our government is the right to life. In accordance with this the legalization of abortion clinics is both unconstitutional and morally abhorrent. The ending of an innocent life is morally unjustifiable, and yet our government has put it’s seal of approval on places that do just that.

I don't know when a baby is "human" or not, but from a spiritual standpoint I'm not ok with killing things just because they're not human. So I'm tracking with you there.
And I know that our government is into this whole "protect rights" thing, and the right to life is one of them.
But I don't understand where the whole idea of "rights" comes out in Christian spirituality. It seems to me that Christ preached an ethic of care and responsibility, not one of rights.
Maybe you could explain?
Note: I certainly don't think my interpretation is the only one, nor necessarily the best for myself or anyone else.
